Nikki graduated from The University of Newcastle in 2012. Since graduating she has worked on the Mid North Coast as a sole Speech Pathologist working side by side with an Occupational Therapist. Nikki is now one of our Speech Pathologists, who is a part of Leaps & Bounds team at the East Maitland practice.
Nikki has gained experience in the areas of speech sounds, language, stuttering, literacy and working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Nikki is dedicated to her professional development. She has attended a number of courses and conferences to further increase her knowledge to ensure she provides the most up to date therapy model and methods for her clients.
Some of the post-graduate training includes Hanen – More than Words (for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Social Communication Difficulties), Sounds Write training (a synthetic phonics approach for teaching reading and spelling), DIR/Floortime (family centred and child lead to encourage meaningful learning exchanges), The Lidcombe Program (a program for stuttering), PROMPT (a system that gives input to the muscles of speech by using touch and pressure) and PEERS Social skill training for teenagers with developmental and autism spectrum disorders.
Nikki loves being a Speech Pathologist and values’ going to work every day knowing her involvement, commitment and enthusiasm is helping to improve a child’s ability to communicate and function within the world.
Nikki adopts a proactive and family centred approach to her therapy and loves getting to know and build rapport with her clients and their families. This rapport helps Nikki to individualise therapy to best suit the goals of the child and the family whilst helping to coach and incorporate therapy into the families’ day to day life.
Nikki enjoys coming home to her husband and her Golden Retriever, Max, at the end of each work day and settling down with a cup of tea. Nikki is also addicted to watching reality TV shows.
